History

S A G Funeral Home has been serving the Nashville community since 2008. The owner and founder Steve A. Ganaway, is a man dedicated to giving back to his community and bringing meaning, compassion, dignity, and respect to the families we serve.

Establishing a black family-owned funeral home allows us to devote our time and efforts to serving every family and helping them through one of the most difficult times in their lives. We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life.

Our funeral home is one of Nashville's leading funeral homes because we are designed to meet changing funeral customs. With a growing trend toward simplicity, family involvement and more unique life celebration ceremonies, we encourage such personal tributes, while offering our services at a sensible price. We have everything to offer to the family in their time of need and, once in our hands, you need not worry about a thing.

This location was formerly McGavock and Martin Brothers Funeral Home, Mr. Ganaway purchased the location, renovated and opened up the location under the business name Henry Louis Smith Funeral Directors, later changing the name in 2014 to S A G Funeral Home. Our funeral home does not charge to bury children under one-year-old – all the family pays the funeral home for is the casket and the cemetery cost.

Being Family-Owned Makes a Difference. Devoted to Meeting Your Needs.

We feel we can accomplish our mission that is not governed by beliefs and values of a corporate entity. We have been committed to providing the best care in funeral and cremation services since 2008. Being family-owned makes a difference in how we service you and allows us the ability to provide you with more choices and the highest level of personal care. We strive to continue services that reflect our core values of respect, compassion, honesty, caring, integrity, and trust.

Today, being a black family-owned is rare in the funeral home industry. More frequently, family and independently owned funeral homes are being bought and operated by large national providers.

Funerals are a celebration of life to which every person is entitled; they are more than observances of this life. Every family has the right to choose their own way of celebrating life.

We have a reputation for transparency and loyalty among our families and have been serving many families for generations. Our success is measured with the experience of each family we serve. We are committed to fair pricing with full disclosure and maintaining the highest satisfaction level. We guarantee you will be pleased with our services.

Our Promise. We were founded to service others. We place the upmost prominence in hiring people with generous hearts and integrity to meet the needs of others before their own.

Our Mission is to be there for every person, one family at a time. We are here to meet your needs and exceed your expectations above ours.

Our Hope is that our love and care for your family is felt from the moment your journey with us begins and brings comfort and light to you in your time of loss. This effort is about more than providing relief and sympathy. We stand beside you to encourage and support you in the midst of your struggle.

Our Home offers an atmosphere that brings hope, joy, and arms to uphold you. We want to celebrate and honor how your loved one touched your life and the lives of others.

Our Presence helps during this time of grieving. Friends and church members may offer to assist in organizing, we also feel it is helpful to have an expert by your side that knows the many intricacies involved in implementing a meaningful memorial ceremony. Our directors will help your family in many ways including:

  • Meeting with each family to customize arrangements
  • Securing vital information, obtaining physician signatures, filing the death certificate with the registrar and ordering/obtaining death certificates for the family
  • Obtaining permits for burial or cremation
  • Submitting the obituary information with the newspapers requested and sharing obituary via online options
  • Helping complete necessary forms for Veterans benefits, Social Security, Insurance claims, and Victims Compensation.
